Reading response- Harrison Bergeron

Harrison Bergeron was a rather odd book. It falls under the genre of dystopia.  In this book, everyone is "equal." The physically and mentally advanced are burdened with "handicaps" that are meant to bring them down to average, so there is no competition among citizens. It brings about some questions about equality. Is this what true equality is? Or is this just an extreme version of it? If this is what equality is, do we really want it?

Harrison is a strange character. He is seven feet tall, handsome, and powerful.  Harrison poses a threat to the government and their "perfect" system they have going on. He runs into a news studio and declares himself emperor on camera. He tears off his handicaps and the handicaps of his empress, and they start leaping toward the ceiling. I found this part of the story to be kind of weird. The story says that they 'kissed the ceiling." Overall I thought this book was odd.
