LOTF thesis

For my paper, I'm writing about how William Golding uses Jack and Ralph's relationship to show how the greed for power can change the people who may seem the most normal. The quote that stood out to me was "A little boy who wore the remains of an extraordinary black cap on his red hair and who carried the remains of a pair of spectacles at his waist, started forward, then changed his mind and stood still." on page 201 of chapter 12. This quote is describing Jack after Ralph claims leadership in front of the officer. Jack comes to the island as a choir leader who, sure, wanted to be chief, but never seemed to be a person who would change into this. By the end of the book, Jack is fully savage and has barely any similarity to the red-haired boy who came to the island not long ago. This supports my thesis because it shows the aftermath of Jack's power play which ends with him only resembling the boy he used to be.
